How the Peniel Project and Millers Foundation is rewriting the future for children in the village in Piauí
There is a village in the interior of Piauí called Olho D'Água. It is a place of deep roots, resilient people, and, for too long, limited opportunities. But something has been changing there.
Where education meets dignity
The Peniel Project is not just a school. It is a promise that every child, regardless of where they were born, deserves a real chance at learning, growing, and thriving. Children who come through its doors receive quality education, yes. But they also receive something just as essential: a warm, nourishing meal.
That combination — food and learning, side by side — is no small thing. A 2023 peer-reviewed study using global data from the Trends in Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) found a significant achievement gap between children who attend school fed and those who don't — a gap that persisted even after controlling for socioeconomic background. A child who is hungry cannot focus. A child who is fed can dream.
With that in mind, the Peniel Project was created to offer education, food and hope to children and adolescents in vulnerable situations ensuring greater dignity, development and hope for the future.
